About Us

The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University was founded in 1934, which is the first Grade A Class III general hospital in Guangxi, as the local center of clinical medicine, medical education, medical research, and healthcare. The hospital is the chairman unit of the China-ASEAN Hospital Cooperation Alliance and the cooperative unit of the China-ASEAN medical personnel training program.

 

The hospital has 2,750 beds, 46 clinical departments, 71 wards, and 19 medical technology departments. In 2021, the hospital had 2,845,000 outpatient visits, 176,000 emergency visits, 132,100 discharges, and 69,700 operations, with 7.28 hospitalization days on average. The hospital has 4691 employees, including 524 doctors, 1082 masters and 986 senior titles. In addition, it has 1 high-level national talent, 2 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding national contributions, 40 experts enjoying the special allowance of the State Council, 60 provincial and ministerial talents, and 65 departmental and bureau-level talents.

 

The hospital has ranked 44th and 43rd in the performance appraisal of tertiary public hospitals launched by National Health Commission in 2020 and 2021 respectively, ranked among the top three in Fudan's "China's Hospital Ranking" in South China for 9 consecutive years. In 2021, the hospital ranked 81st in terms of hospital technology value of the whole country and 74th in the list of China's Top 100 Hospitals.

 

There are 15 national key specialties (including projects in progress), 28 Guangxi key clinical specialties (including projects in progress), and 31 various key disciplines in Guangxi. In the 2021 ranking lists released by the Institute of Hospital Management of Fudan University, 36 specialties (42 in total) ranked among the top five in South China, and 5 were nominated.

 

The hospital continues to innovate and lead the regional medical development and service level. In particular, the hospital has distinctive characteristics and obvious advantages in preventing and treating high-incidence and common diseases such as thalassemia, liver cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and cardiovascular diseases.

 

In the era of "Internet + medical care", the hospital became the first batch of Internet hospitals in Guangxi, and upgraded to build an online and offline integrated platform of "Internet + medical health". Having launched the Internet Hospital Version 3.0, the hospital comprehensively optimizes the online and offline medical treatment process, realizing a new model of dual-line integration and convenient medical treatment.

 

The hospital focuses on building an excellent medical talent training base and platform, and is the first batch of national clinical teaching and training demonstration centers, the first batch of national pilot hospitals for multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment of oncology; the training base for laparoscopic surgeons and digestive endoscopists of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association. In addition, the hospital is also the vice chairman unit of the "Belt and Road" Medical Talent Training Alliance, and the "China-ASEAN Medical Talent Training Cooperation Unit" of the Health Human Resource Development Center of the National Health Commission. The hospital undertakes undergraduate teaching in 7 specialties, including clinical medicine, medical laboratory technology, pediatrics, rehabilitation medicine, anesthesiology, medical imaging, and forensic science; it has 8 national standardized training bases for specialists and 25 standardized training bases for residents. The hospital has a clinical simulation training center with an area of 12,000 square meters, which forms a clinical ability simulation training system integrating teaching, training, examination and scientific research for undergraduates, graduate students, resident trainees, special trainees, advanced students, nursing staff, etc., leading the training and development of medical talents in Guangxi and Guangxi.

 

The hospital has 1 academician workstation, 1 national third-level laboratory of traditional Chinese medicine scientific research, 1 national innovation "Plan 111" base, 1 joint key laboratory of international cooperation of the Ministry of Education, and 1 key laboratory jointly built by the National Health Commission and the province. At the provincial level, there are 5 provincial Key laboratories, 9 Guangxi clinical research centers, 4 Guangxi engineering (technology) research centers, 2 Guangxi talent small highlands, 6 talent small highlands among Guangxi universities and Bagui scholars, 5 high-level innovation teams and outstanding scholars of Guangxi universities, and 3  innovation research teams of Guangxi natural science foundation. In the past four years, the hospital has won 27 Guangxi Science and Technology Progress Awards and Guangxi Natural Science Awards, including 2 special contribution awards.

 

Having built a China-ASEAN cross-border medical cooperation ecosystem, the hospital cooperated with more than 30 key hospitals in ASEAN countries, and jointly built and shared a series of platforms such as China-ASEAN Healthcare Cooperation Center (Guangxi), China-ASEAN Telemedicine Center, China-ASEAN Medical Talent Training Unit, China-ASEAN Cross-border Medical Cooperation Platform, and China-ASEAN Hospital Cooperation Alliance, forming "Guangxi Brand" in the whole country and ASEAN regions with distinctive features.

 

Currently, the hospital takes high-quality development as the requirement, adheres to the direction of "5 Strategies", and strives to build a "3 centers with 1 platform" for regional medical care. They are regional centers for diagnosing and treating difficult and critical diseases, high-incidence common diseases, regional clinical medical talent training, and regional international medical cooperation and exchange platforms.
